Legality Due Diligence Tool for Cocoa

In June 2024, EFI launched a stakeholder engagement process in Ghana, in close collaboration with the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), to develop a legality due diligence tool for operators placing Ghanaian cocoa and cocoa products on the EU market. The initiative promotes a national and consensus-based understanding of the legal requirements relevant under the EUDR, helping to facilitate due diligence, ensure equitable access to information, reduce perceived risks, and enhance the competitiveness of Ghanaian cocoa.

The tool was developed by EFI with the technical support of TaylorCrabbe and Preferred by Nature, combining legal and due diligence expertise. It was finalised in June 2025 and provides a shared reference framework for operators, competent authorities and stakeholders involved in the Ghanaian cocoa sector.
