Legality Due Diligence Tool for Palm Oil

In early 2024, the European Forest Institute (EFI) and the EU Delegation in Colombia agreed to provide technical support for the analysis of the national legal framework relevant to palm oil production and trade. This legality due diligence tool is the result of a multistakeholder process involving public institutions, including the Rural and Agricultural Planning Unit (UPRA), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism (MinComercio) and ProColombia, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MinAmbiente), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MinAgricultura). The process also involved private sector actors and civil society organisations, with strong leadership from the National Federation of Oil Palm Growers (FEDEPALMA) and APS Colombia, and EFI’s technical support.

The work was carried out with the support of the EU-funded Technical Facility on Deforestation-free Value Chains, supervised by the Directorate General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) of the European Commission, the Forests, Climate and Peace Programme of the EU Delegation in Colombia, and additional contributions from Swisscontact and Particip.
