Legality Due Diligence Tool for Cocoa

At the request of the Cameroon Sustainable Cocoa Committee, and as part of the EU-funded Sustainable Cocoa Programme, EFI supported the development of a legality due diligence tool to help operators placing Cameroonian cocoa and cocoa products on the EU market comply with the EUDR legality criterion. This work formed part of the national “Cocoa Actions”, which aims to advance sustainability objectives and ensure continued access to international markets.

Developed by EFI with the technical support of TAMI International Consulting and Preferred by Nature, the tool was produced through consultations with stakeholders across the cocoa supply chain. It was endorsed by the Cameroon Sustainable Cocoa Committee, making it a nationally recognised reference for legality due diligence. The tool includes two modules: a matrix of Cameroonian legal requirements relevant to cocoa production and trade, and a set of recommendations for compliance verification and risk management, including through certification systems.
